  4.     In conjunction with our cover story "Death by Guns," which
  5. reported 464 fatalities in the first week of May, TIME asked its
  6. readers if they favored regulation of firearms. So far, 11,159
  7. people have taken part in our survey. To the question Should there
  8. be any restrictions at all on the possession of guns?, 9,992 said
  9. yes and 1,238 voted no. Support was only slightly less for a
  10. waiting period for the purchase of guns, registration of all guns
  11. and mandatory firearm-safety training; 9,838 readers backed those
  12. measures, and 1,321 opposed them.
